The Seoul World Cup 3-Cushion runs from November 6 to 11 at the Korean National Training Center (TAEREUMG) in Seoul, South Korea. Hugo Patiño will represent the USA and is seeded into the Qualification round (Q) which begins play on Thursday, November 9. Hugo is Player 1 in Group H and his matches are scheduled for 14:30 and 17:30 local time. Be sure to tune in and show your support!

Currently ranked number 33 on the UMB World Players Ranking, Patiño finished 2nd in the 2023 USBA National Championship. He is a 4-time USBA National Champion (2003, 2009, 2016, and 2019) and a 4-time runner up in the nationals. At the recent 2023 Carom Café International Open Patiño led the field after the qualification rounds. From there he advanced to the quarterfinals where he was stopped by Luis Aveiga. Patiño was the 2016 Panamerican Three Cushion Champion.

The Veghel World Cup 3-Cushion starts on October 22, 2023 and runs through the 28th. Raymon Groot will represent the USA and is seeded into the Pre-Qualification round (PQ) which begins play on Tuesday, October 24. Groot is Player 1 in Group L and his matches are scheduled for 16:00 and 19:00 (4:00PM and 7:00PM) local time. Be sure to tune in and show your support!

Raymon Groot finished 3rd in the 2023 USBA National Championship averaging 1.088 with a best game of 1.379. He had the tournament high run of 18! Recently, at the Carom Café International Open in July Groot finished first in his qualification group with a 1.394 grand average. His best game was 2.083 (25 points in 12 innings—he also won matches in 13, 14, and 16 innings). He battled his way through the first phase of the finals finishing 3rd in his group only to be eliminated in the knockout stage by the eventual tournament champion, Sameh Sidhom.

The Billiard Archive is Now Open
Michael Shamos’s collection of billiard articles and artifacts has found a beautiful home on the internet. The Billiard Archive (billiardarchive.org) opened on September 1, 2023. It contains nearly 24,000 catalogued and searchable items in more than 40 languages, including books, articles, posters, and photographs. Mr. Shamos, the author of over 700 articles and books on pocket and carom billiards, gives some simple instructions on the website’s use: “To get started, go to the home page, click the magnifying glass icon at the top left and you will be taken to the search page. Then type anything you want in the search box and hit enter. Have fun!”

Pedro Piedrabuena in his quarterfinal match in Ankara.
Pedro Piedrabuena and Hugo Patiño advanced to the quarterfinals of the 75th World Three-Cushion World Championship in Ankara, Turkey, before losing. In the final rankings, Piedrabuena finished seventh and Patiño finished eighth, the highest finishes for Americans since Sang Lee captured the 1993 title. For their efforts, they each received 39 world ranking points. Piedrabuena is now ranked 17th while Patiño holds the 29th spot.
