Hugo Patino and Mazin Shooni win in Pan American Team ChampionshipPatino And Shooni Are Pan American Team Champions

The United States Team "B" of Hugo Patiño and Mazin Shooni have won the Pan American team championship with a 59-44 victory over Venezuela Team "A". In the finals, Shooni lost to Merlin Romero 30-29 in 25 innings, but Patiño ran 8 and out for a 30-17 victory over Miguel Canton to secure the first-place trophy.

Shooni and Patiño advanced to the finals by running over Venezuela Team "B". Shooni won 30-17 in 19 innings over William Villanueva, and Patiño edged Daniel Reyes 30-27 in 25 innings. The toughest match for the USA contingent was in the quarterfinals when it faced its own team mates from USA Team "A", with six-time national champion Pedro Piedrabuena and always dangerous Michael Kang. The latter surprised Shooni, 30-28 in 26 innings, but Patiño jumped out to a 11-0 lead and ended up besting Piedrabuena 30-24 in 23 innings to secure the team victory, 58-54 and the chance to advance.
