Checking in on the new USBA forum... Hello to all... members, registered site users and guests... this is USBA At-Large Director Doug Deitel... I live in the Houston area. In Houston we have many great places to play three cushion with over 30 high quality heated 10 foot tables. If you'd like to get together and play send me a message.

I'm not sure this is the proper location to make a comment about the new handicap rules, but it was the easiest place to get to on the updated website so I will make my comments here.

First, I think the idea of establishing standards for handicaps is a very good idea.  However, I question why the USBA says that it wants to encourage local tournaments to keep track of innings and scores (and thus averages) at the same time that the USBA says that only averages calculated based on participation in at least two official USBA tournaments will be used to determine that a player is below the "A" category.

If the USBA really wants to encourage local tournaments to go to the trouble of keeping track of player averages, the USBA should make a commitment to use the information gathered by the directors of those local tournaments.

I propose we contact The Houston Chronicle Newspaper sports area regarding the upcoming 3 Cushion Billiard Tournaments being held in Houston. We have a qualifier on March 8th and 9th then as we all know the USBA Nationals. My research shows they prefer E-Mail contact for upcoming events. The contact E-Mail for the Houston Chronicle is sptletters [AT] chron [DOT] com I will do the research for other upcoming tournaments across the country and forward the information to the Board for review.

Re: Welcome to the Forum! Check in here and say Hi!

Greetings gentlemen and ladies,

New to the game, though I've played pool all of my life, it was my re-discovery of Byrne's Standard Book that reminded me of 3 Cushion.  I went to Top Hat in northern Baltimore area and found a 5x10 heated Imperator.  Been in love ever since - I am not going away!  Someday I would love to play in the National against Pedro but there's about a 1000 other guys between me and him - many champions still around!

Thanks for a great site, looking forward to the journey and the day I get to meet Raymond Cuelemans...

Welcome! And thanks for stopping by Chris.

I manage the site so i get to see any new posts. The national tournament will be held in Houston this year (my home town). If you can take time off it is a great event to see... and having played in one I can tell you it is the top of the line for US tournaments.

And one more thing... thanks for the kind words about the site... we are proud of it and hope the members feel it reflects our mutual  love for the game.

Correction - there are 2074 players between Pedro and me.  The slow climb begins...

Re: Welcome to the Forum! Check in here and say Hi!

Thank you.  I am recently interested in 3 cushion billiards.  My Father, in the 1940's and 50's played in tournaments in Rochester, NY.  I have come to appreciate the game. I stuffed the pockets on my 8' pool table so I can play some facsimile of 3 cushion.  My sons like pool and I am trying to introduce them to billiards, so we play a variation I call; 1-2-3  billiards.  Very simple idea and a lot of fun for beginners.  make a straight rail shot; 0 or 1 cushion = 1 point.  Make a 2 rail shot = 2 points, make a 3 or more rail shot = 3 points.  And you can only make 1 straight shot in a row. that keeps the player actively looking to more rails.  It reduces the frustration for new players and helps them begin to see the possibilities. More scoring = more fun.   Have been enjoying the McCreery event!       Dave Dow.
