USBA RANKING SYSTEMS

The USBA Board of Directors have approved an Official USBA Ranking System. It will be applied to ALL Sanctioned USBA Tournaments with a minimum number of 6 players. All tournaments will have the "B" ranking points applied unless there are a minimum of 2 undisputed "A" players in the event. An "A" player is one who has an undisputed grand average overall of at least .800. In that case, the "A" or "Open" rankings will be applied. In order for a player's "A" status to be disputed, it must be disputed by a Board Member who will bring it to the full Board for a vote using standard discussion and voting procedures. We may have to eventually adopt "C" player ranking points as well.

Foreign players are allowed to participate in the ranking systems, but are unlikely to end up on top simply because they cannot play in the Nationals and they will probably not play in most USBA events. The National Championship has its own ranking points which are much higher than all the other events.

When we post the rankings, we will indicate whether or not a player is a U.S. Player. All players who are not US Citizens or Legal residents will have their home country listed instead of USA. The player's level (A, B or C) will also be posted. Although unlikely, it is mathematically possible for a very strong "B" player to finish at the top of the rankings, but since the player's level will be posted, it shouldn't be a problem.

The players who finish near the top will have the privilege of being seeded into tournaments at the discretion of the Tournament Director. It also serves as an incentive for more USBA tournaments in general to be created. Obviously, if the event is an "Open" event, only "A" players should be seeded and the same principle goes for "B" events. It also can be a symbol of pride for some players.

Grand averages will be posted based on all the events that provide averages. Keeping averages will NOT be a prerequisite for tournaments to qualify for the rankings, otherwise, we may defeat the purpose and leave many events out.

The USBA Rankings will include all qualified USBA tournaments that have ended within 12 months of the posting of Rankings. The posted Rankings MUST include at least 1 USBA National Championship Tournament. If there is no National Championship Tournament within the alotted 12 month period, then the period of time will be extended up until the ending date of the most recent National Championship Tournament. The rankings will be updated frequently, ideally after each tournament, but no less than every month, unless there are no events between postings.

A computer program will be created for the ease of keeping records and determining rankings. Once the program is created and tested to be functional, the previous 12 months of USBA Tournaments will be entered into the program and an initial Rankings List will be created and posted online.

Note: "C" Tournaments will temporarily receive the "B" ranking points until such time dictates that we need separate "C" Ranking Points.
