Step 1: Figuring out the Tournament Format:
You should click on this link: Step 1 Detailed Tutorial (PDF) -- before proceeding
a) How many days do you have for the Tournament?
b) How many tables are you using?
c) Will each day be an 8-hour day or a 12-hour day?
d) What is the average time alotted for each match?
Once you have the answers to these questions, we can figure out the Tournament Format.
Click on the appropriate PDF file:
Average time for each match will be 1 Hour
Average time for each match will be 1 Hour 15 minutes
Average time for each match will be 1 Hour 30 minutes
These files will give you the number of the MAXIMUM number of matches that you can have for your Tournament.
Now that you know the MAXIMUM number of matches that you can have, let's find a good format for your Tournament.
Click this PDF file: Formats based on Maximum Number of Matches
Find the maximum number of matches on the left side of the file, and the formats that you can use to the right of that number. You may use any format listed for your maximum number of matches or any lesser number. "Top 1 to Finals" means that the top player from each group (flight) advances to the finals. "Top 2 to Finals" means that the top 2 players from each group (flight) advances to the finals.
If you wish to figure out the format based on the number of players that you have, then click this PDF file: Formats based on Number of Players
Find the number of players on the left side of the file. You can use any of the listed formats for the number of players you have decided on as long as the maximum number of matches (extreme right column of file) is equal to or less than the maximum number of matches you can have.

Step 2: Creating a Schedule of Games to be Played:
You should click on this link: Step 2 Detailed Tutorial (PDF)-- before proceeding
Now that we know which format we wish to use, we need to find out all the matches that need to be played. For example, if we need "3 Flights of 7 Players: Top 2 to Finals", then we need to use 3 sets of the matches to be played for "Flights of 7 Players". We also need 1 set of the matches to be played for a "Flight of 6 Players" for the Finals (Top 2 from each of the 3 Flights).
Open or download the Master list of all the matches to be played:
Master Files of all Games to be Played
If you need 3 flights of 7 players, then you will copy all the matches for "Flights of 7 Players", but copy for flights A, B and C. You will paste them into a blank schedule (see next step).
Now that you have all your matches to be played, you need to fit them into a schedule. You can use one of our blank schedules. Just select the one for number of tables that you are using.
Note: The schedules for 1 table and 2 tables show 3 days worth of matches. All the rest of the files only have one day of scheduling. The match times are already set up for 1 hour matches. Feel free to change those times as needed. Click the "back" button on your browser when finished to come back to this page.
Open or download the appropriate blank schedule after clicking this link:

Step 3: Tournament Charts:
You should click on this link: Step 3 Detailed Tutorial (PDF)-- before proceeding
The Tournament Charts are Round Robin Spreadsheets. They are the main features at Tournaments where players and spectators look to see how all the players are performing. You will need to use one chart (spreadsheet) for each flight including the finals. In our previous example, we had 3 flights of 7 players for the preliminaries and 1 flight of 6 players for the finals. With that example, you would need to save 3 charts (flights A, B and C) for "7-Player Round Robin" and 1 chart for "6-Player Round Robin" (flight D - Finals) .
Click the "back" button on your browser when finished to come back to this page. Figure out the charts that you need to save, then click the following link and open/downlaod the appropriate files:
