1) USBA Tour
2) USBA Delegates Needed
I have attached a copy of this email for easier reading and print-out in both Word and PDF formats.
Updated Information Regarding the USBA 3-Cushion Tour:
I have received many questions from players who are slightly confused about how the Tour and the formats will work. I have attempted to answer these questions to clear up any confusion. I have also made some changes:
1) The Tour consists of 6 different Tournaments. Tournaments are open to all players. If you are not a USBA member or a member of a Foreign Billiards Organization, you may become a USBA member at the time of the tournament.
2) You are not obligated to play in all 6 tournaments. You can play in 1 or 2 or any amount of tournaments that you want.
3) You do NOT have to play in a qualifier (if there is one). I would suggest that you enter the tournament directly as soon as possible. If a Qualifier comes up, we will let you know about it and you can play in the qualifier if you want to, but it is NOT necessary.
4) If you do not know what your average is, then you are most probably a “B” player.
5) Any “B” player may play with the “A” players if they desire (space permitting).
6) If you are a “B” player and wish to play with the “A” players,
the entry fee will still be $ 155.00, not $ 305.00 as previously indicated.
7) “A” players cannot play in the “B” group.
8) We have enough time for an “A” tournament of 12 players and a “B” tournament of 27 players. If we do not have a full field of both levels of players, the format can be altered to allow either more “A” players or more “B” players.
For example:
If we only get 10 “A” players, then we can do a 10 man round robin for the “A” group.
If we get 30 “B” players, we can have 5 flights of 6 players and send 10 to the finals.
If we only get 5 “A” players, we may do a DOUBLE round robin.
If we only get 2 “A” players (unlikely), we can always convert to a “Traditional” format.
The important thing is that we have more tournaments. I would very much like to allow the “B” players to have an opportunity to not only win their tournament, but to collect prize money, a trophy and some recognition for their achievements, something that has never happened before in this country to any significant degree.
9) IT IS CRUCIAL THAT WE HAVE YOUR SUPPORT! Please try your best to enter as many of these tournaments as you can, within reason. WE NEED YOU!
10) Please send in your entry fees as soon as you can. If you are paying by check, please have it to me no later than March 7th, which is only a week and a half away!
11) You can always show up the day of the tournament and pay me in cash, however I cannot guarantee you a spot if we have a lot of players. If paying after March 7th, please send a money order or certified check only, please (cash is OK, too, I guess).
12) Directions to Royal Billiards and nearby hotels are at the end of this letter.
13) Complete the Entry Form (attached). Once again, make all checks and money orders out to: BILLIARD TOUR and send it to:

Qualifiers:
If anybody wishes to hold a qualifier for the Royal Billiards event, or any other event in the Tour, please let me know right away. You can have one qualifier, 2 qualifiers or even 6 qualifiers if you like. The more tournaments we have, the better it is for billiards.
Looking for volunteers to become a “USBA” Delegate:
I am also looking to set up USBA “Delegates” across the country. One or more delegates representing each room in the country that has 3-Cushion tables. That is a lot of delegates!!!
Delegate responsibilities:
1) Run USBA tournaments or qualifiers in your assigned room once per month or every other month (We will teach you). If possible, I feel that you should be compensated for your time. Perhaps you can take a “piece” from the prize fund (say $ 100 or $ 200) depending on the size of the tournament. It is not mandatory, just a suggestion. You will notify me of any USBA events that you would like to have in your room.
2) I will provide your assigned room with a USBA “Bulletin Board” and/or tripod stand which you will need to keep up-to-date with information that is sent to you by me. By doing this, we can inform all billiard players from around the country, not just the USBA members, of ALL USBA events and happenings. This should increase participation substancially.
3) For any events that are being held at or near your assigned room, you will need to make copies of flyers (the original is supplied by me) and display them in your room. This way, every room will be advertising other nearby rooms' events as well as their own. This will ensure maximum turnout of players to every room's event. Flyers will also need to be copied and displayed for all major USBA events. Copies can simply be printed up from an email that I send to you.
4) Not mandatory, but recommended:
-Having an email address is crucial nowadays. Without it, everything takes MUCH longer and is more expensive.
-If you have a laptop and printer which can be used at Tournaments, it will soon be much easier to run things. I will eventually have a computer program which will be able to print up the schedule of games to be played at the touch of a button.
If you would like to become a Delegate, please contact me and I can answer any questions you may have. If you would like to contribute to the game of billiards, but do not have a whole lot of time to do so, becoming a Delegate may be the best way to go. Maybe you will need to update the bulletin board once per week, print up flyers once every 2-3 weeks and run a tournament every month or two. I will look into the possibility of providing all delegates with some “fringe benefits” as well.
WE NEED YOU AND WE NEED YOUR HELP TO BE SUCCESSFUL!
Please consider becoming a Delegate.
Thank you for your time and hope to see you all real soon!
I appreciate any and all feedback from you.
Sincerely,
Jim Shovak
