Juan Elizalde Sauz Qualifies at US Billiards

Juan Elizalde Sauz, one of the recently elected Mid-America Regional Directors, won the event and Qualified into the 2010 USBA Nationals in Tacoma, WA next month.

US Billiards in Houston, Texas held a Regional Qualifier on Jan 15 & 16, 2010. We started our tournament with 7 players, round robin in the preliminary round and no one went undefeated. With 5 wins and 1 loss, Juan Elizalde Sauz came in 1st place. Three players tied with 4 wins and 2 losses with Jose Mario Juarez at 2nd with 97 total points, Lan Vo in 3rd with 96 total points, Ellis Lawrence in 4th with 92 total points. Vinh Trieu came in 5th, Kiet Nguyen came in 6th, and Loc Than came in 7th.

The top four then played a Final Round Robin on Saturday and once again Juan Elizalde Sauz was the top player, Jose Mario Juarez came in 2nd, Ellis Lawrence 3rd and Lan Vo 4th.

We completed the Regional Qualifier at US Billiards on a good note but we still have a lot to learn. On behalf of Bao Cao and US Billiards, I would like to thank all the players who came from far away to make this Qualifier possible, and to Jim Shovak and Paul Frankel for their guidance.

*****Each player in the Qualifier MUST be either a citizen of the United States or a legal permanent resident alien of the United States (green card holder).*****

The USBA Regional Qualifier will be a 3-day event on January 15-17th. First rounds will start right after player’s meeting on Friday at 10:00 am.

Entry fee is $135 ($5.00 per player USBA sanction fee already included)
USBA Membership is required ($ 50.00 for an entire year).
If you are not a current USBA member your total entry fee will be $135 + $50= $185

Dress code: Collared shirt, shoes and slacks.

Format & Payout based on 21 players: There will be 3 flights of 7 round robin format race to 18 points. Two from each flight advance to the 6 person finals round robin race to 22 points on Sunday and payout to all 6 finalists.

Top 2 winners of the finals each receive free entry ($300 value) into 2010 USBA National Championship + $200 expense money at the Nationals and cash$$.
