Young Gull Lee wins the Carom Cafe Qualifier

Fifteen players came to Carom Cafe in Flushing, NY to play for 3 spots in the USBA 2009 Nationals, also being held at Carom Cafe.

Players were divided into 3 groups of 5 players each. The top 2 finishers from each group advanced to a 6-player round robin.

The top 3 finishers earned a total of $ 500.00 each which was entry into the Nationals ($ 300.00) plus $ 200.00 when they arrive at the Nationals. Fourth place received $ 150.00, fifth place received
$ 100.00 and 6th place received $ 50.00.

Flight A: Michael Kang wins the group going 4-0 and Jim Watson finishes 2nd, going 3-1.

Flight B: Jim Shovak wins the group going 4-0 and Young Gull Lee finishes 2nd, going 3-1.

Flight C: Min Jae Pak wins the group going 4-0 and Jake Zymeck edges his way in with a 2-2 record.

Finals: Young Gull Lee and Michael Kang played the last match to determine the champion, both with 4-0 records in the finals. Young Gull Lee wins a close 30-27 match giving him first place. Kang finishes 2nd, going 4-1. Min Jae Pak finishes 3rd going 3-2. Jim Shovak finishes 4th, Jim Watson finishes 5th and Jake Zymeck finishes 6th.

Young Gull Lee, Michael Kang and Min Jae Pak qualify into the USBA National Championships.
