Here are the results of the qualifier at Edgie's Billiards , Milpitas CA held dec 1 & 2.
There were 14 entries - 2 groups of 7 on saturday & a 6 man final on Sunday. The main surprise in the prelims was the clutch play of our President - Bob Jewett. Bob outlasted several good players to make the finals.
On Sunday the finals were 35 pt games- no averages kept. King of the Hill & undefeated for the weekend was Khalil Diab (so much for being"old & tired"). The 68 year old veteran showed why he was a feared competitor in the 90s. Many of the (mostly Latin) spectators & players hadn't seen him play in several years. Khalil mostly plays at Vallejo Elks. Second was Lenny Luis Pinal of San Jose who played in last year's Nationals. A young man with a big stroke who can also make the delicate shots. The other finalists were (3rd-6th)- Homero Landa from SF, Pete Harley from Oakland , Chris Tovar of SF & Bob Jewett of Palo Alto. Tony & Suzy were generous hosts, as always. I believe Khalil will go to the nationals. I'm not sure who else will attend - possibly Bob Jewett will be the second entry. The first 2 prizes were entry to Nationals & some expense money.
